Campsfield to Close

Yesterday, 7th Feb 2002, the Home Secretary David Blunkett announced the closure of Campsfield House detention centre. This is part of the government white paper "Secure Borders, Safe Haven: Integration with diversity in modern Britain" which is available in full at http://www.asylumsupport.info.

Campsfield House has been an immigration detention centre since November 1993. It is expected to close next year.

This is of course excellent news for the campaign to close Campsfield. Unfortuneately Campsfield now only represents a small part of the immigration detention capacity in the UK so it's not the end.

Demonstrations are still taking place on the last Saturday of every month while it remains open. Come and oppose the detention of asylum seekers in the UK.
